[Go Back]

On January 15, 2003, my fiancee, daughter and I were traveling in Colorado for a wedding. We were 45 minutes away from our destination and it happened..... our lives changed forever. My fiance hit black ice and our truck rolled. Somehow I ended up under him and he was belted in. When we finally stopped moving, I knew instantly that I had lost the use of my legs. I thank God that I was the only one hurt. My family and friends flew out to Denver to be with us and to fly my daughter home (to be with her dad). I came back to South Dakota to be near my family. I did rehab near home, so I could see my daughter everyday. The people who rallied around us were wonderful and generous with time and money. My new job (an elementary school) had done several benefits for me. The Kindergarten class I was an EA surprised me on a visit and on a field trip to the hospital they stopped by rehab and watched me workout. I am very greatful to those wonderful people everyday. And now I am on my 3rd year at the school. My fiance and I got married in Dec after the accident and we are happy and doing very well. He doesn't put up with my demands and makes me independent. I love to drive and work and play with my daughter. My life is alot fuller now than it was before the accident.
