Hi everyone,
I was just basically wondering if independant living is attainable. My mom keeps telling me that it really isn't unless I get out of a wheelchair. I mean, it isn't like I'm trying. I also go to school full time. I just feel like every decision that I make regarding this is wrong. My mom constantly tells me that my priorities are wrong. I just don't know what they are supposed to be. Should I wait on putting my life back together??

I Think that you need to get out on your own as soon as you can. I know that for the first five months after my fall I was leery about even leaving the house. You cannot stay hidden forever and you will never be able to know your limitations or your successes unless you do it yourself. I know is sounds scary etc but I am a C 6/7 and I have been on my own now for almost two and half years. I can truthfully say that they have not been fun but at least I am living my life the best way I can and the way that I want to live it given my currant situation

I'm looking to move out and be on my own.But i don't think i can afford it on my income.I tried it once and it lasted about a year.
Anybody know of a place that a person on limited income can live.

I live alone have been most of my 15 years being a para. I 'M lucky I already had a house. I also have parents who can help me out financially. Because my only income is SS Diability Income. I live in SC and there regulations for medcaid and food stamps are screwy I do'nt reate Medcaid and I receive $10.00 per month food stamps. Meds cost me over $230.00 per month which is almost 1/4 of my income.
I have medicare hqve already used up $600.00 transitional funding. Like Charles said"I can truthfulle say that hae not been fun but at least I a living my mife the best way I can and the that I want to live it given me curren situation. But just remember

I am 2 years in a chair and a para. There is independence for you, all you have to do is work hard. Set some small goals and do them. The support helps, but you can do it on your own. I got married and learned to drive, and work full time. I love my life now. Yes it is hard at times, but it beats sitting at home and thinking about things that you can't do now. Good luck and remember to take one step at a time. Mamanell, South Dakota
